Hey there,
I (40M) recently started doing ocean swims after ~17 years in the pool recreationally and did my first ever swim competition. I did surprisingly well, doing a 1:25 min pace on a 2.8km distance and now I'm hooked and want to push myself. Let's be very ambitious and say I want to take 10 seconds off my 100m pace.
I'm pretty confident with my technique, some things I know I have to improve, but let's assume that's not blocking me.
After swimming very inconsistently for a few years, I am back in the pool 3-4 times a week, swimming 2.5 - 3.5km, mostly doing 100s, 200s and 1km distances (never did long distance before).
How should I train now for the next 6 months? Can I achieve that jump without weight training? Should I just do more intervals trying to hold faster paces for shorter distances? Should I do longer sets? Or is it unrealistic to improve that much without working on technique? How much faster would be realistic?
I'm basically self-taught, so any "professional" tips are very welcome! Curious to here what people think
Cheers!
