Ex-swimmer asking for tips to drop under 25s for 50m freestyle

Hey everyone, so basically I used to be a competitive swimmer up until I was 17 (started swimming at 4). I am now 26, and two months ago I got a friend to stopwatch for me a 50m for fun and got 29.8 seconds. Because of this I thought to maybe try swimming again and see if I can improve this.

I joined the local club and started training with the masters team twice a week. I currently swim around 5km per week (I used to do 13 sessions of 4-5km during my peak). My all time record when I was 17 was 26.8 seconds for the 50m. It is important to note that I was never taught correct technique and I think I have lost on a lot of momentum because of it.

I started researching freestyle technique more and being more consious about how I swim and pull the water. Last week the club held a small tournament and I got 27.77 seconds for the 50m. I only bike next to swimming. I am fit but I wouldn't say I necessarily have a muscular build. My endurance is also quite crap in comparison to when I was training daily ofc.

The masters team only train three times a week, and I don't really have much time for swimming. I have done some research and so far changed these things:

  • Replaced my fabric cap with a silicon one.
  • Bought a tech suit for meets.
  • Started shaving more.

I am not updated on what are the best techniques/regimens for people with little time, but I really think I might have something more to give in the tank. What advice/fitness regimens I should focus on if I wanted to drop below the 25 seconds? I believe it is doable I just don't know where to start from a technical standpoint.

Sorry for the long read and thanks for the help!
